Recently, Youth Congress activists held a protest outside the SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) office, demanding an investigation into allegations against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch. They also called for her resignation, citing the findings of a report by US-based short seller Hindenburg Research. According to the protestors, these allegations require a thorough inquiry to ensure transparency and accountability in SEBI’s functioning.

The protest attracted significant attention, leading to a strong police presence at the scene. The police eventually detained several Congress workers and registered a case against them under various sections of the law. The protestors, however, remained firm in their stance, insisting that SEBI must be held accountable, and that the Chairperson should step down to facilitate a fair investigation.

The protest comes after Hindenburg Research’s report raised concerns about financial irregularities, prompting the Congress activists to demand immediate action. The Youth Congress has been vocal in seeking greater scrutiny of the regulatory body, arguing that the Chairperson’s resignation would allow for a more independent and transparent inquiry into the matter.

Despite the police intervention, the protest highlighted growing public scrutiny over SEBI’s role and leadership.
