West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has accused the state government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of failing in its duty to protect the lives and property of citizens. He highlighted ongoing concerns about governance after a rape and murder case at RG Kar Hospital sparked controversy.
The Governor said that his office has already stepped in, as allowed by the Constitution, to address the issues surrounding the incident. Bose expressed his discontent over the arrest of a police officer and a senior doctor in connection with the case, suggesting it reflects “institutionalized crime” in various sectors.
Speaking about the government’s role, Bose remarked, “The government has failed in its basic obligations. Who should take responsibility? If the Chief Minister is the head of the administration, then the answer lies with her.”
Bose also stated that Raj Bhavan is actively involved in the matter and will continue to intervene, stressing that “Raj Bhavan belongs to India” and its actions are constitutionally justified. Meanwhile, the strike by junior doctors entered its 12th day, adding to the state’s ongoing challenges.
