The West Bengal government has established a 7-member committee to review three newly proposed laws before they are enacted.
This committee includes distinguished members such as Asim Kumar Roy, a retired judge of the Calcutta High Court, and Malay Ghatak, the state’s law minister. Other members are Chandrima Bhattacharya, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare; Kishore Dutta, the Advocate General of West Bengal; Sanjay Basu, a senior advocate; Rajeev Kumar, the former Kolkata Police Commissioner; and Vineet Goyal, the current Kolkata Police Commissioner.
The committee is tasked with meticulously examining the legal aspects and implications of these laws to ensure they align with the state’s requirements and public interest. This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to thorough legal scrutiny and public welfare before implementing new legislation.
