Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently met with the Lord Mayor of London, Alastair King, during her official visit to the United Kingdom. During their meeting, Mayor King expressed the UK’s strong interest in increasing financial support for infrastructure development in India.
He specifically mentioned the ongoing cooperation under the UK-India Infrastructure Financing Bridge and emphasized the need to deepen this partnership further. He highlighted that India presents a significant opportunity for economic and investment growth in the infrastructure sector.
The Finance Minister shared details of the meeting on her social media, stating, “The Lord Mayor expressed his deep commitment to India and appreciated India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.” She also noted that the Lord Mayor had praised the strong cooperation already underway through the financing bridge initiative and called for strengthening these ties even more.
According to Mayor King, UK financial institutions are eager to expand their involvement in India’s development plans and see great potential in working closely with Indian stakeholders. He recognized the Indian government’s efforts in infrastructure growth and stated that the UK wants to be a reliable partner in this journey.
The UK-India Infrastructure Financing Bridge is a collaborative initiative that aims to bring together public and private sector expertise from both countries to support sustainable infrastructure projects. As India continues to make rapid strides in building roads, railways, urban centers, and green energy facilities, international financial cooperation is expected to play a key role.
The meeting reflects the growing interest among global investors in India’s evolving infrastructure landscape and the strengthening of India-UK economic relations. With mutual trust and shared goals, both nations look forward to a deeper partnership in building modern and inclusive infrastructure.
