Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray announced on Saturday that if his party comes to power after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, they will cancel the tender for the Dharavi Basti Redevelopment Project awarded to businessman Gautam Adani’s company.
Addressing reporters, Thackeray emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the residents of Dharavi and their livelihoods are not disrupted. He promised that the people living in Dharavi should receive 500 square feet houses within the settlement.
The former Chief Minister firmly stated that he will not allow Mumbai to transform into “Adani City.” Thackeray assured that no additional concessions would be granted to anyone once in power. He also mentioned that if necessary, his administration would issue a fresh tender for the project to better serve the people of Dharavi.
Thackeray’s remarks underscore his party’s focus on protecting the interests of Dharavi’s residents and maintaining the integrity of Mumbai against large corporate influences. This announcement is poised to play a significant role in the upcoming elections, as it directly addresses the concerns of one of Mumbai’s largest slum communities.
