Donald Trump, sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, has issued a stern warning to the 10-member BRICS group. Speaking about their plans to shift away from the US dollar, Trump said, “If the BRICS countries want to do that, then that’s fine, but we will impose a 100 percent tax on their business with the United States at least.”

BRICS is an intergovernmental alliance that includes Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. Trump’s remarks have raised concerns over potential trade tensions between the US and these nations.

This is not Trump’s first warning to the BRICS group. In December, he made similar statements, cautioning them against moves to challenge the US dollar’s dominance in global trade.

Experts believe that Trump’s aggressive stance could escalate tensions in international trade. The BRICS alliance has been exploring ways to reduce reliance on the US dollar, a step that Trump sees as a direct challenge to America’s economic interests.

The impact of Trump’s statement remains to be seen, but it underscores growing economic rivalries on the global stage.
