The Karnataka High Court has granted bail to three accused in the murder case of journalist Gauri Lankesh. Justice S Vishwajit Shetty’s court on Tuesday granted bail to Amit Digvekar, HL Suresh, and KT Naveen Kumar. The trio had sought bail citing delays in their trial.
In December last year, the court had also granted bail to another accused, N Mohan Naik. Gauri Lankesh, known for her outspoken writings, was shot dead outside her home in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017. Her murder had sparked widespread outrage and debates on freedom of the press and safety of journalists in India.
The trial has faced significant delays, prompting the accused to seek bail. The court’s decision to grant bail to the three accused marks another development in the long-standing case. Lankesh’s murder is considered a high-profile case due to her prominent role in journalism and activism, and the case continues to draw attention from various quarters, including the media and human rights organizations.
