The Supreme Court of India will hear a petition on Monday seeking immediate measures to tackle Delhi’s worsening air pollution. The case will be heard by a bench comprising Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice A.G. Christ.

The hearing comes amid alarming levels of air pollution in the national capital. On Sunday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘severe’ category, with a reading of 429 at 9 a.m., as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) ‘Samir App.’

The petition was listed for urgent hearing after the Supreme Court acknowledged its significance on November 14. The plea highlights the critical need for government intervention to address the hazardous air quality, which poses serious health risks to residents.

Delhi’s air pollution crisis is attributed to multiple factors, including vehicular emissions, industrial activities, and seasonal stubble burning in neighboring states. Citizens are struggling with poor visibility, respiratory issues, and health warnings due to prolonged exposure to polluted air.

The apex court’s decision on the petition is expected to push authorities towards implementing stricter measures to mitigate air pollution and protect public health in Delhi.
