The Supreme Court will hear the plea of three accused in the Bahraich communal violence case against house demolition notices issued by the Uttar Pradesh government on October 23. The court has instructed the government not to take any action until the hearing.
Advocate CU Singh, representing the petitioners, requested an urgent hearing before a bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan. Singh informed the court that the petitioners received house demolition notices and were given only three days to respond.
The Uttar Pradesh government assured the court that no action would be taken on the demolition notices until October 23, allowing time for the Supreme Court to hear the case and consider the petitioners’ arguments. The decision will impact the ongoing debate over house demolitions linked to communal violence.
