The Allahabad High Court had earlier dismissed the application of the Shahi Masjid Eidgah Trust on August 1, 2024. Following this, the mosque management committee filed an appeal in the Supreme Court.

According to the court’s website, the case will be heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar. This bench had initiated hearings on the matter on December 9, 2024, aiming for a final resolution.

The dispute has drawn significant public and legal attention, with both parties presenting their claims over the disputed site. The Krishna Janmabhoomi temple authorities argue the land historically belongs to the temple, while the Shahi Eidgah Trust maintains its legal ownership of the mosque built on the site.

The hearing on January 15 is expected to provide clarity on this long-standing and sensitive issue. All eyes are on the Supreme Court for its judgment in this high-profile case.
