The Supreme Court will hear on Monday the case involving the tragic deaths of three civil services aspirants due to rainwater flooding the basement of a coaching center in Delhi. The incident occurred on July 27, 2024, when three students lost their lives after the library of Rao’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar filled with rainwater during heavy rainfall.

A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan will preside over the hearing. The case was last heard on September 20, when the Supreme Court directed the central government’s inquiry committee to submit its interim report. The report has outlined measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The deaths of the students have sparked widespread concerns about the safety standards of coaching centers, especially those located in flood-prone basements. The case has drawn significant attention due to the lack of proper drainage and safety measures at educational institutions. As the court hears the case, the focus will be on ensuring accountability and enforcing preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future. The hearing is part of ongoing efforts to address negligence and improve safety regulations in the city.
