The Supreme Court is set to deliberate on Tuesday regarding the possibility of granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the excise policy scam. The hearing on Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest is expected to take time, prompting the court to consider interim relief in light of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
The Bench, led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, directed the Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the Enforcement Directorate, to seek instructions from the probe agency on the matter of interim bail for Kejriwal. The court also sought suggestions from the ASG regarding the conditions the ED would impose on Kejriwal if interim bail is granted, including the possibility of allowing him to sign files from jail.
While the Bench refrained from indicating a decision on interim bail, the ASG expressed opposition, citing recent statements made by AAP MP Sanjay Singh. Kejriwal, currently in judicial custody at Tihar Jail since his arrest on March 21, has challenged the Delhi High Court’s verdict upholding his arrest in the money-laundering case.
