The Supreme Court of India has granted relief to Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation, directing Tamil Nadu police not to take further action in accordance with a Madras High Court order. The High Court had previously instructed an investigation into allegations of illegal detention of two girls at an ashram of the Isha Foundation.
The Supreme Court passed its order while transferring a habeas corpus petition filed by a person in the High Court, who claimed that his two daughters were being held captive at the Isha Foundation premises. The habeas corpus petition is typically used to review cases of illegal detention.
The top court’s intervention effectively pauses any ongoing investigation as per the earlier Madras High Court directive, providing temporary relief to Isha Foundation. The court is expected to further review the claims of illegal detention and determine appropriate steps. This decision grants Isha Foundation a reprieve from immediate police scrutiny as the matter continues to be addressed at the highest judicial level.
