Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams conducted her first spacewalk on this mission after spending over seven months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). She was accompanied by NASA astronaut Nick Hague to perform critical exterior repairs.
Repairs Outside the ISS
The astronauts exited the ISS, which was orbiting 260 miles above Turkmenistan, to carry out the necessary maintenance. The mission ensures the station’s smooth operations and continued safety for its crew.
Another Spacewalk Scheduled
Sunita Williams, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, is set to perform another spacewalk next week. The upcoming task will address additional technical requirements for the ISS.
Cooling Loop Issue
The spacewalk comes after a cooling loop problem identified last year. The repairs are aimed at resolving issues to maintain optimal conditions for both astronauts and equipment on the ISS.
Eighth Spacewalk for Williams
This marks the eighth spacewalk in Sunita Williams’ illustrious career. She continues to set milestones as one of NASA’s most experienced astronauts.
Astronauts Stuck Due to Starliner Delay
Williams and Wilmore have been on the ISS longer than planned. Their return to Earth was delayed due to problems with Boeing’s Starliner capsule. Initially launched in June last year as a test mission, the Starliner faced technical issues, postponing their journey home.
Expected Return in Late March or Early April
The astronauts are expected to return to Earth by late March or early April once the Starliner issues are resolved. NASA and Boeing are working together to ensure a safe and smooth landing.
Dedication in Space Exploration
Sunita Williams’ efforts highlight her dedication to space exploration. Her achievements continue to inspire millions around the world.
