Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has vehemently criticized Ravneet Singh Bittu’s decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Randhawa denounced Bittu’s move as an act of betrayal, particularly highlighting the historical ties between Bittu’s family and the Congress party.
Randhawa emphasized that the Congress had extended significant support to Bittu’s family over the years, including appointing his grandfather, Sardar Beant Singh, as Chief Minister of Punjab and granting ministerial positions to other family members. Despite not being appointed as a Cabinet Minister himself, Bittu’s relatives were given prominent roles in the Punjab government.
Furthermore, Randhawa expressed deep disappointment over Bittu’s departure from the Congress, stating that it has left many supporters feeling betrayed. He underscored the legacy of Sardar Beant Singh and the sacrifices made by thousands of martyrs during Punjab’s turbulent times, suggesting that Bittu’s actions would tarnish this legacy.
Randhawa cautioned Bittu about the potential repercussions of his decision, particularly in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He warned that Bittu’s association with the BJP could have adverse consequences, not only for himself but also for the reputation of Sardar Beant Singh’s legacy within the BJP ranks.
