A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck off the southern coast of Japan on Thursday, prompting a tsunami warning. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the quake’s epicenter was located at a depth of about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) off the east coast of Kyushu, Japan’s southern main island.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, Japan’s public television reported damage at Miyazaki Airport, located near the epicenter, with broken windows being noted. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents in coastal areas to stay alert for potential tsunami waves.
