In a welcome turn of weather events, Himachal Pradesh experiences its first substantial snowfall after a dry spell lasting nearly two months. The picturesque tourist spots near Shimla, including Manali and Dalhousie, transformed into winter wonderlands as heavy snow graced the region.

The Meteorological Department confirms that this is the inaugural significant snowfall of the season, attributing it to a western disturbance that is expected to persist until Thursday. Residents, especially farmers, and hoteliers are elated as the precipitation promises positive outcomes for the agricultural sector and tourism industry.

However, the sudden snowfall posed challenges for tourists, with around 300 individuals finding themselves stranded near the Atal tunnel on Tuesday evening. Prompt police intervention ensured the rescue of these tourists, who were traveling in 50 vehicles and an HRTC bus.

Various regions, including Lahaul, Spiti, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur, Sirmaur, and Shimla districts, report moderate snowfall, creating a picturesque landscape but also necessitating caution in transportation. Simultaneously, lower-altitude areas, such as Dharamshala, Shimla, Solan, Nahan, and Mandi, experienced light to moderate rains, contributing to a considerable drop in temperature.

This unexpected turn in weather conditions is met with mixed emotions, with farmers anticipating benefits for their crops and hoteliers looking forward to increased tourist footfall. As the snow continues to fall and rain graces different parts of the state, residents and visitors alike are urged to exercise caution and enjoy the wintry spectacle responsibly.
