In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Tharoor wrote, “It is clear that the BJP has neither an understanding of democracy nor diplomacy. They have become so blinded by petty politics that they have forgotten the values of a free media and independent civil society in a democracy.”

Tharoor emphasized that such statements damage India’s international reputation and distract from real issues facing the nation. He accused the ruling party of undermining the fundamental principles of democracy, such as freedom of speech and an independent civil society, in their pursuit of political advantage.

The BJP’s claims have sparked widespread debate, with critics arguing that such allegations are baseless and contribute to unnecessary diplomatic tensions. Tharoor’s comments add to the growing voices urging the ruling party to focus on strengthening democratic institutions and upholding India’s global image as a vibrant and free society.

The controversy highlights ongoing tensions between political rhetoric and democratic principles in India’s current political landscape.
