Peel Police in Ontario have arrested seven Punjabi youths linked to two shootings at a Brampton home. The incidents were reportedly part of an extortion attempt targeting a businessman of Indian origin.

On November 30, three suspects—Manpreet Singh (27), Dilpreet Singh (23), and Harshdeep Singh (23)—allegedly opened fire at a residence on Montinberry Road around 2 a.m. They fled the scene, but police identified them through CCTV footage. A search of their residence uncovered a firearm and ammunition, but the suspects were not present.

The same house was targeted again on January 2. This time, acquaintances of the original suspects carried out the attack, causing panic among the residents. Fortunately, the family was unharmed in both shootings. Evidence from CCTV footage revealed that all involved individuals were members of the same gang.

Following a court-issued search warrant, police raided another residence linked to the suspects and seized additional arms and ammunition. Four more suspects were arrested: Dharampreet Singh (25), Manpratap Singh (27), Atamjit Singh (30), and Arvinderpal Singh (21).

Investigations revealed that four of the accused were out on bail for similar offenses, leading to additional charges of bail condition violations.

Police believe the shootings were carried out to intimidate the businessman into paying a ransom, which he had refused. All seven suspects are scheduled to appear in court for further legal proceedings.

The incidents have raised concerns about gang activity and the safety of the community, prompting authorities to reinforce measures against organized crime in the region.
