Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the interim head coach for the national team ahead of their limited-overs series against India, scheduled to commence on July 27. The decision comes after Chris Silverwood’s resignation from the position following Sri Lanka’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup. Jayasuriya, known for his explosive batting and effective spin bowling during his playing days, brings a wealth of cricketing experience to the coaching setup.

SLC CEO Ashley de Silva expressed confidence in Jayasuriya’s ability to lead the team effectively in the interim period, stating, “Jayasuriya’s appointment will have an immediate impact.” The board hopes his leadership will rejuvenate the team and pave the way for improved performances in the upcoming series.

Jayasuriya, aged 55, has previously served as a member of Sri Lanka’s selection committee and has been actively involved in cricket administration post-retirement. His appointment underscores SLC’s commitment to revitalizing the national team amidst challenges and aspirations for competitive success in international cricket.
