The cold wave has slightly eased in North India, but winter’s grip remains firm. Rainfall has added to the chill in areas like Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Tourists, however, are enjoying the snowfall in hilly regions.
In Delhi, 3.9 to 10.1 mm of rain was recorded from late Wednesday night to Thursday morning, bringing relief from pollution and fog. According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent rain and dense fog are expected on Thursday. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 17°C, while the minimum may settle at 10°C.
Rain Forecast for January 17
Rain across North India is due to a western disturbance active since January 14. On Friday, January 17, dense fog may continue throughout the day, especially in Delhi-NCR. The maximum temperature is predicted to rise to 19°C, while the minimum could drop to 8°C.
Weather Warnings Issued
The Meteorological Department has issued a 24-hour alert. Heavy rain is expected in some parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Dense fog is likely in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan. Fog may also affect Madhya Pradesh and parts of the northeast. Additionally, strong winds may sweep western Rajasthan on Thursday.
The rain has brought mixed feelings—while some areas rejoice in the beauty of winter, others prepare for the challenges of cold and foggy conditions.
