In a heartfelt visit, Rahul Gandhi met the family of Shaheed Agniveer Ajay Kumar in the village of Ragmarh Sardara, Khanna. The Congress leader paid homage to the martyr by bowing his head in respect to Ajay Kumar’s supreme sacrifice.
During his visit, Rahul Gandhi spent about 20 minutes with Ajay’s parents and six sisters. He held the hand of Ajay’s father, Charanjit Singh, and expressed his deep sorrow and respect for the family’s loss. Emotional upon hearing the story of Ajay’s dedication and hard work in joining the army, Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to the family.
Rahul Gandhi assured Ajay’s family that if the India Alliance forms the government, the controversial Agniveer scheme would be scrapped immediately. This scheme, which has faced significant opposition, aims to recruit soldiers on a short-term contractual basis.
Dr. Amar Singh, the Congress candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib, accompanied Gandhi and noted that Rahul Gandhi is consistently meeting the families of martyrs. He emphasized Gandhi’s dedication to supporting these families and honoring their sacrifices.
The visit underscores Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to addressing the concerns of military families and his broader promise to revise defense policies to better serve the nation’s soldiers and their families.
