Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today affirmed that the legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the right of farmers and pledged that the ‘India’ alliance will ensure farmers receive their due rights. Gandhi met with a 12-member delegation of the United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha at his Parliament House office, asserting that the review so far indicates the feasibility of implementing the MSP guarantee. He also vowed to raise the issue of alleged atrocities against farmers by Haryana’s BJP government in Parliament.

Earlier, Gandhi alleged that farmer leaders invited by him were initially barred from entering Parliament. However, when he decided to meet them outside, they were subsequently allowed in. During the meeting, farmer leaders reminded Gandhi of his pre-election promise to enact an MSP guarantee law and establish a constitutional commission for loan waivers if elected. They urged him to vigorously advocate for these issues in Parliament, given his significant role in the opposition as part of the ‘India’ coalition. The farmers also expressed their anger over the BJP government’s recommendation to award the President’s medal to officials involved in firing at farmers.
