Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer Directs Officials to Enforce Election Guidelines”

In the wake of the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, convened a crucial meeting with Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers via video conferencing. The primary agenda of the meeting was to ensure the seamless implementation of the Model Election Code (MCC) guidelines, with a focus on upholding the principles of free and fair elections.

During the meeting, Sibin C underscored the importance of proactive measures in maintaining electoral integrity. He urged officials to promptly address encroachments in both public and private spaces, emphasizing the need for a conducive environment for democratic participation.

Furthermore, Sibin C emphasized the significance of leveraging technology for effective oversight. He highlighted the role of the C-Vigil app, developed by the Election Commission of India, in facilitating citizen reporting of MCC violations. Stressing the importance of timely action, he instructed officials to adhere to the prescribed 100-minute time limit for processing complaints lodged through the C-Vigil app.

The directives issued by Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer underscore the commitment of electoral authorities to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process. As preparations for the upcoming elections intensify, the focus remains on ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in the conduct of electoral affairs across the state.
