In a move to empower farmers, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has introduced the Self Declaration Scheme (VDS), allowing farmers to increase the power load of their farm motors at subsidized rates. Initially announced on June 9, 2022, the scheme proved successful, benefiting 1.96 lakh farmers who collectively increased the load of about 8 lakh B.H.P motors, resulting in savings of approximately 180 crores.

Under this revamped plan, farmers can now enhance motor loads with reduced charges – from Rs 4750 to Rs 2500 for service connection and a decrease in security charges from Rs 400 to Rs 200 per horsepower. Domestic consumers will also enjoy reduced rates, with charges dropping from Rs 450 to Rs 225 per kilowatt for up to two kilowatts. The scale continues, offering tiered reductions for varying consumption levels, benefiting both domestic and commercial consumers.

This initiative not only eases the financial burden on farmers but also contributes to the overall economic relief of consumers across sectors. Chief Minister Mann shared details of the scheme on ‘X,’ urging citizens to take advantage of these favorable adjustments in power rates.
