Farmers Announce Punjab Bandh
Farmers in Punjab have announced a statewide bandh on Monday, December 30, to protest against the government’s inaction on their demands. The decision was made public by farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher during a press conference at Khanauri Border. The bandh will start at 7 AM and continue till 4 PM, affecting almost all aspects of daily life in the state.

What Will Be Shut?
During the bandh, farmers have called for the closure of all schools, colleges, offices (both government and private), shops, and commercial establishments. Road and rail transport services will also be halted. Farmers have appealed to people to support the bandh and make announcements in villages to ensure maximum participation.

Essential Services to Continue
Despite the shutdown, emergency services such as ambulances, medical aid, and essential supplies for weddings will remain operational.

Protests Intensify Over Farmer Leader’s Health
Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on a hunger strike, and his health is deteriorating rapidly. However, farmer unions allege that the government has failed to take note of their concerns.

Key Highlights of the Bandh

No public transport, including buses and private vehicles, will run.

Petrol pumps will remain closed.

Milk supply will be halted.

Blockades will be set up at over 200-300 locations across the state.

Citizens have been urged to avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary.

The farmers have clarified that they are in talks with other unions to garner more support for their movement. The bandh aims to draw attention to their demands and pressure the government to act.
