In response to the intense heat wave currently gripping the region, the Punjab Education Department has announced summer vacations for all schools. Effective June 1 to June 30, government, private, and recognized schools will be closed, as approved by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
This decision comes amid a scorching heat wave that has made daily life challenging, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly. The Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave alert, advising people to avoid outdoor activities between 12 noon and 3 pm.
Punjab is not alone in facing extreme temperatures, as several states across India have already declared holidays for schools to protect students from the harsh weather. The advisory issued emphasizes the importance of staying indoors and taking necessary precautions to stay hydrated and cool during peak hours.
The timely decision to start summer vacations a month early aims to ensure the health and safety of students and school staff. Parents are urged to keep their children indoors during the hottest parts of the day and to follow all recommended guidelines to avoid heat-related illnesses.
As temperatures continue to rise, the authorities remain vigilant and ready to implement further measures to safeguard public health.
