These new cards are designed to streamline the process and ensure women can continue to travel for free, as they did previously with Aadhaar. The RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) card will enable quick, contactless scanning, enhancing convenience and reducing wait times. Meanwhile, the NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) offers a broader range of functionalities, including usage across different modes of public transport and retail purchases, making it a versatile option for daily commuters.

The decision to phase out Aadhaar in favor of these specialized travel cards comes as part of the government’s efforts to modernize public transport and improve service delivery. By implementing these changes, the Punjab government aims to provide a more efficient, user-friendly experience for women travelers.

Officials have indicated that the new cards will be distributed shortly, with detailed guidelines on how to obtain and use them. This move is expected to benefit thousands of women who rely on government buses for their daily commute, ensuring their continued access to free and hassle-free travel.
