Amidst swirling controversy surrounding the Punjab Excise policy, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has staunchly defended the initiative, expressing readiness to face any investigation into its implementation. Cheema lauded the policy, highlighting its positive impact on the state’s revenue and the successful crackdown on the liquor mafia.
“This is a good policy,” Cheema asserted, emphasizing the significant increase in Punjab’s excise duty revenue by a staggering Rs 4,000 crore over just two years. He attributed this success to the policy’s effectiveness in curbing illicit liquor activities within the state.
However, amidst the praise for the policy, the shadow of the Delhi Excise case looms over Punjab’s administration, prompting scrutiny and calls for accountability. Despite the allegations, Cheema remains resolute in defending the policy’s integrity and efficacy.
In response to the unfolding situation, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang condemned what he referred to as BJP’s “dictatorship,” indicating the party’s refusal to capitulate under alleged pressure from the ruling party. Kang’s statement underscores the escalating political tensions and the perceived interference in Punjab’s governance by external forces.
As the controversy intensifies, stakeholders from various political affiliations continue to weigh in on the matter, shaping the ongoing discourse surrounding governance, policy, and political dynamics in the region. The coming days are likely to witness further developments as investigations unfold and political rhetoric escalates.
