In a significant turn of events, the Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has undertaken a series of decisions aimed at the welfare of the public. The implications of these decisions are not only anticipated to bring relief to the citizens but also signal a proactive approach as the state gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

One of the pivotal decisions made during the recent cabinet meeting is the restoration of approximately 2.75 lakh ration cards in the state. These cards, previously invalidated due to verification discrepancies, will now benefit a staggering 10.77 lakh beneficiaries. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, addressing the media after the meeting, emphasized that these beneficiaries will be able to avail themselves of the state government’s door-to-door ration delivery scheme. With the restoration, the total number of ration cards in the state is expected to surpass 40 lakh, benefiting a population of 1.57 crore.

Chief Minister Mann highlighted the government’s commitment to efficient governance by approving a new transfer policy for teachers in the state. This policy aims to streamline the process, allowing teachers to focus more on their core responsibilities of imparting education rather than dealing with administrative hassles. Notably, teachers facing family emergencies, such as serious illnesses, will have the flexibility to apply for a year-long leave to attend to their familial responsibilities.

In a move geared towards immediate medical assistance in road accidents, the Cabinet approved the commencement of the Ferishte scheme from January 27. This initiative seeks to facilitate the prompt transportation of accident victims to hospitals, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public safety.

The Cabinet also announced the establishment of a ‘School of Eminence’ at the Punjab Institute of Technology in Fazilka district, a step towards enhancing educational infrastructure. Simultaneously, the decision to terminate harvesting contracts in state mandis from the year 2023-24 is expected to uplift the socio-economic status of marginalized communities, as stated by Chief Minister Mann.

Furthermore, the green signal to amend the ‘Punjab Municipal Building Bylaws-2018’ for self-certification of residential building maps up to 500 square yards within municipal limits marks a significant stride in streamlining bureaucratic processes. This modification empowers architects to provide direct approvals, eliminating the need for intermediaries and expediting the process for citizens.

The comprehensive set of decisions reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development, administrative efficiency, and a people-centric approach. As Punjab witnesses these transformative changes, citizens and stakeholders alike anticipate a positive impact on their lives and the overall progress of the state
