Punjab is experiencing a notable shift in weather patterns as rain and strong winds sweep through the region since last night. According to the Meteorological Department, the sudden change is attributed to a Western Disturbance, with the day temperature expected to drop by 3 to 4 degrees due to the rain. A rain alert has been issued for today and tomorrow, along with warnings of strong winds and gusty conditions on March 31.

The department forecasts strong winds at speeds of 40 to 50 km/hr during these two days, with the possibility of hailstorms in many areas. This shift in weather poses concerns for farmers as crops are currently in the maturing stage, raising fears of potential losses. Moreover, the sudden downpour and accompanying winds have disrupted normalcy in various parts of the state.

Residents are advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions during this period of inclement weather. While the rain brings relief from the soaring temperatures, it also underscores the need for preparedness and resilience in the face of unpredictable weather patterns. As the region anticipates a return to normalcy from Monday onwards, the impact of this weather episode on agriculture and daily life remains a focal point of concern for Punjab.

According to the information received, there have been reports of considerable loss of crops due to rain and strong winds in many areas. Many other areas including Patiala, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Jalandhar and Amritsar have been particularly affected. The sudden change in weather has wreaked havoc on crops, raising concerns among farmers about potential losses. Officials are taking stock of crops to determine the extent of crop damage and are providing support to affected farmers during this challenging time.
