Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that essential commodity prices have surged under their rule while they divert attention from pressing issues during the election campaign. Addressing three meetings in the Wayanad constituency, where her brother Rahul Gandhi seeks reelection in the Lok Sabha, Priyanka criticized the Modi-led central government for its failure to address rising prices and unemployment.

Priyanka accused the Prime Minister of seeking votes on religious grounds and stressed that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections represent the last chance to safeguard democracy and the Indian Constitution. She highlighted the ten-year surge in petrol, diesel, and essential goods prices under BJP governance, alongside a simultaneous rise in unemployment rates.

The Congress leader lamented the absence of discourse on unemployment and the Modi government’s efforts to mitigate rising commodity prices during the general elections. Priyanka asserted that the BJP government’s divisive tactics have enriched select industrialists while neglecting the concerns of ordinary citizens.

Furthermore, Priyanka accused the BJP-led central government of intimidating the judiciary and asserted that Modi has compromised media freedom by influencing coverage through business connections. She condemned the exploitation of religious sentiments to sway voter behavior, attributing it to Modi’s media manipulation during the election season.

Priyanka’s critique underscores the opposition’s concerns regarding the BJP’s governance priorities and its impact on the economy and social cohesion. As the election campaign intensifies, her remarks highlight the contrasting visions for governance and the pivotal role of addressing pressing socio-economic challenges in shaping electoral discourse.
