In a significant development, Chandigarh Police intercepted a car with a Haryana license plate at Sector-36, uncovering a staggering amount of Rs 35 lakh in cash during routine checks. The cash was discovered while inspecting vehicles at the gate, leading to the seizure of both the cash and the vehicle. Two individuals, including the driver, were taken into police custody for interrogation.

Authorities suspect the cash, found amidst the Model Election Code implementation, was intended for political use during the upcoming elections. Investigations are underway to determine the origin and purpose of the substantial cash found in the car.

The vigilant stance of Chandigarh Police, especially amidst the Lok Sabha elections, underscores their commitment to upholding Election Commission directives. In adherence to these guidelines, Sector-36 police had set up a checkpoint at Sector 35/36 Chota Chowk to monitor incoming and outgoing traffic. It was during one such inspection that the Swift Dzire car, registered in Haryana and driven by an individual from Karnal district, attracted attention.

Upon halting and scrutinizing the vehicle, authorities uncovered a total of Rs 35,21,071 in cash. However, neither occupant could provide satisfactory explanations or produce relevant documentation when questioned by the police. The incident has sparked a thorough investigation into the source and intended use of the seized funds, highlighting the efforts of law enforcement agencies to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
