Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called the ongoing discussion on ‘One Nation, One Election’ a significant issue for India’s democratic future. Speaking at the annual rally of the NCC at Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi, PM Modi urged the youth to actively participate in this debate and encourage it.
He explained that simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held in the early years after independence, but this practice was later discontinued, leading to various challenges for the country. “Frequent elections result in repeated updates to the voter list and involve significant manpower, including teachers, which disrupts education. Governance also faces challenges due to the constant election cycle,” he said.
PM Modi emphasized that the debate on ‘One Nation, One Election’ is crucial for streamlining the electoral process and reducing its impact on governance and resources. He added that citizens are sharing their opinions on this matter, which is vital for the nation’s democratic growth.
The Prime Minister encouraged young people to contribute their perspectives to the discussion, as the outcomes of such reforms would directly impact their future and the nation’s progress. The debate continues to gain momentum across the country.
