Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex today, which will manufacture C-295 aircraft in India. PM Modi emphasized that this collaboration marks a new chapter in India-Spain relations and strengthens the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative, propelling India towards becoming a global manufacturing hub.
The medium-sized C-295 transport aircraft, originally developed by Spain’s Casa (now part of Airbus Defense and Space), is versatile, with capabilities for medical evacuation, disaster management, and maritime patrol. PM Modi extended his best wishes to the Airbus and Tata teams and paid tribute to the late Ratan Tata for his contributions to the industry.
At the event, PM Modi and PM Sanchez toured an exhibition celebrating the project. Sanchez announced that the first C-295 aircraft from this facility will be ready by 2026. Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran pledged that the first India-made aircraft would be delivered within two years, underscoring the rapid progress expected at the facility. The foundation stone for the complex was laid in October 2022, making this a milestone in India’s aviation and defense manufacturing journey.
