Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a fierce attack on the Congress party during a rally on Friday, accusing it of being driven by hatred and corruption. He alleged that the ‘ghost of hatred’ has entered the Congress and that it is now being run by “fragmentary gangs” or splinter groups and urban Naxalites.

Modi criticized the Congress for opposing the recent Ganpati Puja he performed at the residence of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud in New Delhi. Congress had raised ethical concerns over the Prime Minister’s participation in the religious ceremony. Referring to this, Modi stated that even after 138 years, the Congress still holds hostility towards Ganpati worship.

The Prime Minister was addressing a rally marking the one-year anniversary of the launch of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana,’ a scheme aimed at empowering traditional artisans and craftsmen in India. In his speech, Modi contrasted the current Congress with the party of Mahatma Gandhi, saying that today’s Congress is very different from the one associated with Gandhi and other great leaders.

He further accused the Congress of harboring anti-India sentiments, referencing recent comments made by Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the United States. Without naming Rahul Gandhi directly, Modi criticized Congress leaders for promoting what he called an “anti-India agenda” in their speeches abroad. His remarks were aimed at Rahul Gandhi’s comments on reservations and the Sikh community, which have been met with criticism from the ruling party.

The Prime Minister’s sharp remarks signal a continued escalation in the political rivalry between the BJP and Congress ahead of upcoming elections.
