Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, stating that there was not much difference between the two. Owaisi described Kejriwal and Modi as “brothers” and claimed they were “two sides of the same coin.” According to Owaisi, both leaders had emerged from the same ideological roots of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)—with Modi coming from the RSS ‘shakha’ and Kejriwal from its institutions. Owaisi’s remarks were aimed at highlighting what he sees as a similarity in their political ideologies and governance styles.

Owaisi was campaigning for his party’s candidates in the upcoming Delhi elections, which are set for February 5. He appealed to the people of Delhi to vote for AIMIM’s election symbol, the “kiten” (kite), while supporting Shifa-ur-Rehman, one of the party’s candidates. Owaisi also walked through Shaheen Bagh, a prominent area in Delhi, to engage with voters. Alongside Shifa-ur-Rehman, AIMIM has fielded Tahir Hussain, a former AAP councilor, from Mustafabad. Hussain, who was jailed in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots, joined AIMIM last December.

During his campaign speech, Owaisi accused Kejriwal’s government of being biased in its handling of the judicial process. He questioned the fairness of the judicial system, especially in cases related to the 2020 Delhi riots, in which both his party’s candidates, Hussain and Rehman, are involved. Owaisi’s allegations aim to criticize what he perceives as selective justice in the political and judicial system.
