The National People’s Party (NPP) announced today that it has withdrawn support from the BJP-led government in violence-hit Manipur. The party accused Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s government of failing to resolve the ongoing crisis and restore peace in the state.
The NPP, which has seven MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly, sent a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda to formalize its decision. In the letter, the party expressed concern over the worsening situation in Manipur, citing the loss of innocent lives and immense suffering endured by the people.
The NPP stated, “The Manipur state government under the leadership of N Biren Singh has completely failed to address the crisis and restore normalcy. Considering the current circumstances, the National People’s Party has decided to withdraw its support from the government with immediate effect.”
This move is a significant political setback for the BJP-led coalition in Manipur, further complicating efforts to stabilize the region. The withdrawal of NPP’s support reflects growing dissatisfaction among allies regarding the handling of the crisis.
The political landscape in Manipur is now uncertain, with the BJP facing mounting pressure to address the volatile situation and restore public trust.
