A 21-year-old student preparing for the NEET-UG examination in Kota, Rajasthan, tragically committed suicide by hanging himself in his room on Wednesday night. The deceased, identified as Parshuram Jatav from Barsana in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, is the 14th student to commit suicide in Kota this year, and the 26th case since 2023 in the city known as a coaching hub.
Parshuram’s father, Khacharmal, has linked his son’s death to the stress surrounding the NEET-2024 examination and its associated issues. Despite his suspicions, Khacharmal has not made any formal allegations in the police report. The police, who are investigating the case, did not find a suicide note at the scene, leaving the exact reasons behind the tragic incident unclear.
The alarming rise in student suicides in Kota, often attributed to immense academic pressure, continues to raise concerns about the mental well-being of young aspirants in the city. Authorities and educational institutions are being urged to take serious measures to address the mental health challenges faced by students and to prevent further tragedies in the future
