NDA Wins 9 out of 11 Seats in Maharashtra Legislative Council Elections

Elections were held today for 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing a significant victory. Out of the 11 seats, nine were won by NDA members, while the India Alliance secured two seats.

Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in five seats. Additionally, Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Ajit Pawar each won two seats. Reports indicate that some Congress members cross-voted during the election.

The voting process began at 9 am at the Vidhan Bhawan complex and continued until 4 pm. The counting of votes commenced at 5 pm. The tenure of the 11 Legislative Council members is set to end on July 27.

For this election, the BJP fielded five candidates, while its Mahayuti allies Shiv Sena and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) each fielded two candidates. On the other hand, the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) each fielded one candidate. Their ally, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) of the Mahavikas Aghadi, supported the candidate from the Peasant and Workers Party (PWP).

The current composition of the Maharashtra Legislative Council stands at 274 members. The results reflect the ongoing political dynamics within the state, with the NDA continuing to maintain a strong presence in the council.
