According to the advisory, temperatures in Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab could increase by up to 4 degrees Celsius, with the mercury potentially reaching up to 46 degrees in South Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh. From May 16 to 18, these regions are expected to experience the peak of the heatwave. In North Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab, temperatures are likely to stay between 41 and 44 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents to avoid direct sunlight, particularly during the afternoon hours when the heat is most intense. They recommend wearing light, cotton clothing and covering the head to protect against the sun. Staying hydrated by drinking water continuously is also emphasized as crucial.

In contrast, the weather in Himachal Pradesh is expected to remain clear until May 16. However, starting May 17, a new Western Disturbance is predicted to approach the state, leading to a change in weather conditions, especially in the central hills and high-altitude areas. The recent rains over the last two days have kept the weather pleasant in Himachal Pradesh, but this is likely to change with the upcoming disturbance.

The advisory serves as a critical reminder for people in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to take necessary precautions against the severe heat. Authorities are also likely to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed to ensure public safety. The contrast in weather patterns between these northern regions and Himachal Pradesh highlights the diverse climatic conditions experienced across India during this time of the year.
