A tragic fire engulfed the Baby Care New Born Hospital in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar, resulting in the deaths of seven newborns. The fire broke out late Saturday night, around 11:30 PM, in the hospital and its adjacent building, according to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
DFS chief Atul Garg reported that twelve newborns were initially rescued from the blaze, but six were declared brought dead, and one succumbed to injuries during treatment. The surviving five babies are currently receiving care at another hospital.
The fire triggered a swift response from emergency services and local residents, who assisted in evacuating the newborns. Despite these efforts, the inferno’s intensity led to the tragic loss of seven lives. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to GTB Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Senior police officials indicated that action is being taken against the hospital’s owner, Naveen Kichi, as investigations continue into the fire’s cause and potential safety violations.
This devastating incident has cast a pall of grief over the community, highlighting the urgent need for stringent safety measures in healthcare facilities to prevent such tragedies in the future.
