West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today expressed deep sorrow over the brutal murder of a female doctor in a temporary medical college and hospital. Calling the victim her “sister,” she extended her heartfelt condolences to the grieving parents and demanded strict punishment for the culprits.

Speaking at a special gathering of senior and junior doctors, as well as medical students, Banerjee assured that her government is committed to delivering justice. She also highlighted the importance of the Aparajita Bill, which proposes the death penalty for rape convicts.

“I express my condolences to the family of the sister who was murdered in a temporary hospital. We demand strict punishment in this case,” she said. She also recalled how she personally protested against the horrific incident to seek justice for the victim.

Banerjee reminded the gathering that the Aparajita Bill, which her government passed, is still awaiting approval from the President. She emphasized that the bill is crucial in ensuring justice for victims of sexual violence and preventing such crimes in the future.

It is worth mentioning that on August 9 last year, a 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered in a government hospital in Kolkata. The shocking incident led to nationwide outrage, with people demanding stricter laws to protect women.

The Chief Minister urged society to come together to protect women, calling on men to take responsibility for ensuring the safety of their sisters. “I entrust the responsibility of protecting our sisters to my brothers. We must work together to prevent such tragedies in the future,” she said.

Banerjee reassured the public that her government will continue to fight for justice and ensure that those responsible for such heinous crimes are punished.
