On the second day of the special Assembly session in Maharashtra, 105 MLAs, including members of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), took their oaths as legislators. This followed a boycott by opposition MLAs on the first day, who alleged misuse of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the state elections.
The session began with prominent leaders, including Congress members Nana Patole, Vijay Wadetiwar, and Amit Deshmukh, taking their oaths. Other key figures, such as Jitendra Awhad from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) and Aaditya Thackeray from Shiv Sena (UBT), also participated in the proceedings.
Yesterday, 173 MLAs were sworn in, leaving only nine members yet to take their oaths, which is scheduled for tomorrow. Among those sworn in today were several first-time legislators. Their families attended the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in their political careers.
The three-day special session marks the beginning of legislative proceedings for the newly elected Assembly. Despite the initial tensions and opposition’s protest, the swearing-in process is nearly complete, signaling the start of governance for the new term in Maharashtra.
