The Maharashtra government has issued a tender for the construction of a new 60-feet tall statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg. This comes after the original statue, located at Rajkot Fort in Malvan tehsil, collapsed due to strong winds on August 26. The new statue will be built at a cost of Rs 20 crore, which includes engineering, installation, and maintenance. Officials have set a completion time of six months for the project.
Jaideep Apte, the sculptor of the previous statue, was arrested following the collapse. The Public Works Department has been tasked with the construction of the new statue. The government aims to ensure a sturdier and more durable structure that pays tribute to the Maratha king and his legacy. This new monument is expected to be a significant landmark in the district once completed.
With the tender process underway, the authorities are confident that the project will be completed within the stipulated time frame, providing the region with a new symbol of pride and history.
