The Maharashtra government has approved the formation of two separate corporations to work for the welfare of journalists and door-to-door hawkers in the state. This decision, announced by the Chief Minister’s Office, aims to improve the working conditions and provide better support to these groups, especially those involved in the distribution of newspapers.
The state government already offers ‘Sanman Nidhi’, a monthly financial assistance for accredited retired journalists. Additionally, financial aid is provided to journalists and their families to help with health-related expenses. The new corporations will build on these initiatives, ensuring that both journalists and hawkers selling newspapers receive the support they need.
The move is expected to address specific concerns and challenges faced by both professions. For journalists, it will help secure their financial stability post-retirement and during health emergencies, while hawkers will receive structured welfare assistance. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring better livelihoods and addressing the welfare needs of those involved in the media industry and newspaper distribution.
With the establishment of these corporations, the government aims to bring a positive change to the lives of those who contribute to the flow of information and news across the state.
