Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has slammed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s claim that the Indian economy is performing well, calling it “ridiculous.” In a post on X, Kharge accused the Modi government of being “visionless” and blamed it for destroying the economy and making life difficult for ordinary citizens.
He pointed out that in 2025 alone, the Indian stock market has lost ₹45 lakh crore in value. He also highlighted that Nifty’s profits for this quarter have been the worst in the last five years.
Kharge further stated that the Indian rupee is currently above 87 against the dollar, indicating a high trade deficit. He also pointed out that imports have surged by 62.21% over the last five years, worsening the country’s economic situation.
The Congress leader’s criticism comes amid growing concerns over inflation, unemployment, and declining investor confidence. While the government maintains that India’s economy is on the right track, opposition leaders argue that key indicators suggest otherwise. With elections approaching, economic performance is expected to be a major issue in political debates.
