The Karnataka government ordered a mall to close for seven days after it allegedly denied entry to a farmer wearing a dhoti and white shirt. This incident, which took place on Tuesday, was condemned by all parties in the Vidhan Sabha.

The government described the alleged insult of the farmer as an injury to his honor. Urban Development Minister B Suresh told the House that he asked the BBMP Commissioner for immediate action. The government has the authority to take legal action and ensure the mall remains closed for seven days. Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa called the incident condemnable.

The incident involved 70-year-old Fakirappa from Haveri district, who went to watch a movie at a multiplex with his wife and son. Reportedly, the security guard at the mall refused them entry due to Fakirappa wearing a dhoti and asked them to come with pants instead. Assembly Speaker UT Khader raised the issue and urged the government to take action.

Congress MLA Prakash Koliwad, representing Ranibenur, mentioned that Fakirappa is a resident of his constituency and has educated all his children, with one son studying MBA in Bangalore. He said the farmer was insulted because of his dress, and the mall should be closed. Opposition leader R. Ashok noted that such issues have been discussed before, and stressed that the President or government must issue orders to prevent such incidents, which must be strictly followed by all.
