Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal has raised concerns about the gap between the statements made by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and the actions of the BJP government. Speaking on Bhagwat’s Vijaydashmi (Dussehra) address, Sibal noted that while the RSS chief stated that India has become stronger globally and its respect has increased, there is a mismatch between these words and the ground reality under the current government.

In his speech in Nagpur on Saturday, Bhagwat emphasized the importance of unity, stating that divisions based on religion should not exist in the country, as India is a land of diverse religions and languages. Sibal welcomed these sentiments but questioned whether the government supported by the RSS is upholding these values in practice.

Sibal remarked, “I welcome Bhagwat’s statement on unity and diversity, but I must ask—why does the government, which the RSS backs, act contrary to these principles?” He pointed to discrepancies between the RSS’s message of inclusivity and what he perceives as the government’s actions on the ground, urging the RSS to address this inconsistency.

This raises ongoing debates about the relationship between the BJP and the RSS and whether their actions align with their public statements.
