In a ceremony held at the Punjab Raj Bhavan, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit administered the oath of office to Justice Sheel Nagu as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Nagu previously served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The event was conducted by Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, and family members of Justice Sheel Nagu. Also present were retired and current judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora, Revenue Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, Punjab Advocate General Gurvinder Singh, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, and other senior civil and police officers from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
Justice Sheel Nagu’s appointment as Chief Justice was formally notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice on July 4, 2024. Born on January 1, 1965, Justice Nagu was enrolled as an advocate on October 5, 1987, and practiced civil and constitutional law at the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur. He was appointed as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on May 27, 2011, and became a permanent judge on May 23, 2013.
